Formed in 1971, this band is one of the premier and most inspired jazz bands of today, and has performed to acclaim throughout North America and Europe at countless festivals, concerts and clubs.  Their exhilarating style has propelled them to the forefront of the traditional jazz scene, earning them accolades from audience and critics alike.  They are not merely a "revivalist" band, nor do they simply try to recreate verbatim the classics of yesteryear.  While they draw their repertoire from the entire spectrum of New Orleans music, from the hot classics of the 1920s to the Preservation Hall standards, along with excursions into Ellingtonia and other lucrative areas along the way, the band has taken this rich trove of songs and interpreted them with fresh insights, imbued with the individual music personalities of each member of this talented group.

One of the hallmarks of the New Black Eagle Jazz Band has been its huge and diverse repertoire.  The band has long been a pioneer in researching and performing some of the less familiar music of the classic jazz era.  The band's songbook not only includes numbers by the early New Orleans masters (King Oliver, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton) but also the music of Duke Ellington, Fats Waller and even some originals.  An outstanding characteristic of the band is its superb use of ensemble.  In concert, the band frequently executes complex arrangements of tunes, building excitement gradually over several reprises, in an addictive and dynamic performance completely in the jazz tradition and effected with uncommon taste and musicianship.

The New Black Eagle Jazz Band has performed with a number of prestigious orchestras including the Baltimore Symphony, the Boston Pops Orchestra, and the Scottish National Symphony.  It can also be heard on more than three dozen recordings, cassettes and CDs under the Phillips, GHB, Stomp Off and Black Eagle labels.
